Third Circuit
Practice Guide
We are pleased to present this guide to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. The guide provides straightforward answers to some of the more common questions we hear from lawyers whose practices may not take them to the Third Circuit on a regular basis. Complimentary hard copies will be mailed to all 3CBA members in the near future.

Dear Members:
The Third Circuit on Monday, January 9, 2012, released a Standing Order strongly discouraging what it sees as a rising tide of overlength briefs. The Court has created a standing (special) 3-judge motions committee to review all such requests. The clear implication is that such motions will no longer be as routinely granted as they may have been in recent years. The order has been posted on the Court's website http://www.ca3.uscourts.gov/. It will also be available on our website as well.
With best regards,
Steve Orlofsky
President, 3CBA
and
Peter Goldberger and
Robert Zauzmer

Since our formation in 2007, the 3CBA has presented state of the art appellate programs in every corner of the Circuit – from Pennsylvania to the Virgin Islands – covering topics such as electronic filing, appellate motions practice, brief writing, and effective oral argument. We presented two panel programs, “Certification of State Law Questions to State Courts” and “Ethics in Appellate Advocacy” at the May 2009 Third Circuit Judicial Conference, which also featured addresses by Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice David Souter.
We also encourage our members to get involved with our committees.
Our committee chairs welcome your involvement in shaping the activities of the 3CBA. Please also feel free to contact our Board of Governors, who welcome your input.
If you practice in the Third Circuit, please consider this as your personal invitation to join us. Click here for more information about joining the 3CBA. On behalf of the officers and members of the 3CBA, we look forward to working with you, to getting to know you, and to your active involvement in our Association.
